My time at The Works

Background

The Works is a multi-channel retailer with a mission to offer a unique and enjoyable shopping experience, built on core principles of value, variety and quality.   My  role was a new  to the business following  the listing on London Stock Exchange  to enhance, develop and grow the Marketing function through introduction of brand strategy and data/insight as well as improve the BAU elements of the department.

Overview of main achievements

  •  Created a successful brand and marketing department giving it a  voice within busy commercial trading environment and became an intrinsic part in the key business decision making process at c-suite level.
  • Cost savings of circa £500K in year 1 finessing print and fine-tuning the start to completion brief and order processes.
  • Created the approved marketing/commercial strategy clearly demonstrating the opportunities for growth for the next 3 years based on  data.
  • Successfully demonstrated the power of insight and customer data to the trading and PLC Board applying a more forward thinking, data led approach to the business resulting in the on-boarding of best in class email service provider.
  • Introduced a robust PR plan with clear agency KPI’s, results paid for the PR agency annual retainer in less than 3 months (measured via  trackable links).
  • Demonstrated versatility and adaption to change creating and managing an engaging heavy-weight social strategy whilst supporting  the online and digital function through COVID-19.

  • Delivered robust customer insight program expanding into tangible, strategic commercial plan for future growth and stability developing a customer-led marketing strategy including full spend and incremental sales forecasts with full media support. 
  • Responsible for all customer facing communication and content strategy including social media, email, digital marketing (paid search, affiliates and display), CRM, PR & print.
  • Introduced media, insight, creative and PR agency to further strengthen the proposition. 
  • Corporate communications including Annual Investor Report. 
  • On-boarded a premium  email service provider with a strong supporting data platform allowing the ability to create personalised experiences throughout the customer journey.
